Participants are briefed on the equipment used and assisted to put on a harness and helmet. Koinonia also uses the latest single rope technique descenders for safety and maximum versatility.

Before descending participants are shown a system developed by Koinonia, where the abseiler starts from the ground and via a pulley system and bottom belayers is hoisted to a comfortable height to start the Abseil or decent. This unique “up hoisting” system ensures maximum safety and optimum security for all involved.

The only person on the top of the tower is the abseiler and the complete belay (safety team) is on the ground ensuring instructors are not supervising students 10m above the ground. We have developed this system for beginners so the fear of crossing the 10m edge no longer exists.

Abseilers can choose to start their abseil from one metre or from 10 metres depending on personal preference. Each group member is trained and personally assessed using this method before commencing the tower climb and descending from the top. Koinonia Staff are trained competent in the Work Cover Authority Approved Safe Work at Heights Rope Access Rigging Level III Advanced Tower Climbing and Rescue.
